Philadelphia NAACP President, Interim DA Candidate Trade Insults

Lynne Abraham, the city's former district attorney, is one of 14 candidates who a panel of judges could pick to complete the last 6 months of the term vacated by Seth Williams

Philadelphia's NAACP president and a former prosecutor who hopes to serve as interim district attorney are trading insults.

Lynne Abraham, the city's former district attorney, is one of 14 candidates who a panel of judges could pick Thursday to complete the last six months of the term vacated by Seth Williams, who resigned and pleaded guilty to corruption charges.

Rodney Muhammad, who is also a Nation of Islam minister, says Abraham has failed to address crime problems in the black community and is a "menace to society."

Abraham, who is white, tells Philly.com that Muhammad's comments are "ridiculous" and says he's failed to speak out about the rising homicide rate or the corruption of Williams, who is black.

Abraham says Muhammad has "been asleep. He's Rip Van Rodney" referring to the fictional character who slept for 20 years.
