Philadelphia Mourns Fallen Firefighter

Philadelphia is mourning the city's first female firefighter killed in the line of duty.

About 50 people attended a candlelight vigil for Joyce Craig outside her firehouse Tuesday night.

Inside Engine 64 firefighters placed flowers, candles and photographs on the 11-year veteran's locker.

Black bunting hangs from firehouses across the city in her memory.

Craig died Tuesday after she became trapped in the basement of a burning row home where an elderly woman was later rescued.

Officials hailed the 36-year-old mother of two for her work ethic and the pride she took in being assigned to the city's busiest firehouses, including Engine 64 in the city's Lawncrest neighborhood.

Mayor Michael Nutter called Craig's' death "a tremendous loss" and a "very sad day" for all Philadelphians.
