Philadelphia is increasing security for this weekend's Fourth of July festivities because we're closing in on the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
"Certainly with the 10th anniversary of 9/11 just around the corner, I think you'll find cities around the country will be paying particular attention to all large gatherings and events. Philadelphia is no different," said Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey.
"But there are no threats that have been made toward the city of Philadelphia," Ramsey said, emphasizing that "there is absolutely nothing that should prevent people from coming down and enjoying themselves."
The city is staffing a Joint Operations Command Center this weekend that includes police, fire, the city's emergency management office, Department of Human Services and the F.B.I.
You'll see extra police at big events as well as the neighborhoods. "Foot, bike, cars, mounted -- we'll be out there," Ramsey said.
This year the city is also posting portable surveillance cameras in key areas. Those cameras will all feed into the Joint Operations Command Center, "to keep track of the crowds and so forth."
Ramsey said they want everyone to come down, have fun, behave and remember:
"If you see something, say something."
