Ex-Philly Homicide Detective Pleads Guilty to Helping Girlfriend Flee After Murder

Former Philadelphia homicide detective Ronald Dove pleads to helping woman flee arrest

A former Philadelphia homicide detective has pleaded guilty to helping his girlfriend flee arrest in the 2013 slaying of her former lover.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that 44-year-old Ronald Dove pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiracy, lying to authorities and evidence-tampering. He was sentenced to 30 days in prison followed by three years' probation.

Police said Erica Sanchez called him after stabbing Cesar Vera in September 2013 outside a north Philadelphia after-hours club. They said Dove helped her get rid of her car before taking her to an upstate New York hotel room, but confessed to investigators several weeks later.

Thirty-six-year-old Sanchez pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in November and is awaiting sentencing. Prosecutors said her testimony was to be used against Dove, whose trial was to begin Wednesday.
