Philadelphia-Area Schools Dominate Forbes' ‘Top Colleges' List

Philadelphia-area schools took home quite a bit of glory in Forbes' most recent "America's Top Colleges" list.

Forbes runs the list annually, basing its rankings on a student's return on investment, or ROI. The magazine hones in on what a student gets out of a college, rather than the requirements for acceptance into the school.

Leading the charge at No. 3 is Swarthmore College. The private school is a member of the Tri-College Consortium with fellow A-listers Haverford College (No. 11) and Bryn Mawr College (No. 65), as students are allowed to cross-register for many classes at any of the three schools.

Ivy League University of Pennsylvania came in at No. 12, ranked fourth among the Ivies. Princeton (No. 4), Yale and Harvard (No. 6 and 7, respectively), ranked higher.

Elsewhere in the Philadelphia area, Villanova University ranked No. 71 of the 650 schools listed. Archrivals Lafayette College and Lehigh University (No. 48 and 77, respectively) also cracked the top 100.

Overall, 10 of the top 100 schools are located in Pennsylvania.

The University of Delaware ranked 28th out of the public colleges, and 135th overall.
