Philadelphia Colleges Closing Ahead of Pope Francis' Arrival

Temple University is among a number of other Philadelphia-area colleges which will close ahead of Pope Francis' arrival in the city next month.

Temple announced Monday that the school's campuses would shut down on Friday, Sept. 25.

The Community College of Philadelphia, Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania are also planning to close. Rutgers University Camden will also shut down.

NBC10 has confirmed that Thomas Jefferson University and University of the Arts will close on Sept. 25 as well.

St. Joseph's University told NBC 10 it will not cancel classes during the day on Sept. 25, but all evening classes will be cancelled on that day.

La Salle University told NBC 10 classes are canceled for Saturday, Sept. 26.

Although Villanova has not cancelled class for the day before the Papal Visit, the University has asked faculty to either reschedule class or make it available online to students.

Pope Francis will be in Philadelphia Sept. 26-27 at the conclusion of the World Meeting of Families. He's expected to draw huge crowds in the city.

Some roads within a 3-square-mile restricted traffic box will start shutting down as early as 8 a.m. on Sept. 25.
