Roxborough Doctor Guilty in Illegal Pill Mill Scheme

A federal jury has convicted a Philadelphia-area doctor on more than 250 drug distribution counts, including one resulting in death, for running a pill mill out of his offices.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports 60-year-old Jeffrey Bado was found guilty Thursday on a total of 308 counts stemming from his illegal pill prescription ring.

Federal prosecutors say Bado prescribed large amounts of oxycodone and methadone to clients of his practice in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia from 2010 to 2011 and later Bryn Mawr from 2011 to 2013.

Bado in one instance reportedly caused the death of a drug-addicted patient.

By the time his practice closed, Bado was charging new patients $800 cash per visit, returning patients $400 and he was no longer accepting health insurance.
