For many of our viewers, it's important to know what to do with their animals when the storm arrives. First, and perhaps most importantly, be sure to tag and photograph your pet before the storm in case they go missing. According to the National Hurricane Center, your Pet Disaster Supply Kit should include:
- Proper identification including immunization records
- Ample supply of food and water
- A carrier or cage
- Medications
- Muzzle, collar and leash
In Philadelphia, PCART (Philadelphia County Animal Response Team) is opening 3 location shelters for animals in conjunction with the human shelters that the Red Cross is setting up.

In Delaware, Delaware Animal Response (DAR) is urging pet owners who evacuate to seek shelter with family and friends or in hotels that allow pets. If that's not possible, there are pet-accessible shelters that DAR, the Department of Health and Social Services and the Red Cross have set up at:
