‘Person of Interest' Released After Questioning in AC Hit-&-Run

A person of interest was taken into custody, questioned and released Tuesday morning.

Police have released a man that they believe to be the driver in the hit and run that killed a man in a wheelchair pending further investigation.

The hit and run took place at Route 30 and Pennsylvania Avenue in Atlantic City around 9:30 p.m. Monday. Police say a Nissan compact car struck and killed a 45-year-old man in a wheelchair. The vehicle then fled southbound on Virginia Avenue, according to witnesses.

Investigators discovered what the vehicle they believed was involved in the hit and run on Maryland and Atlantic Avenues.

The suspect was taken into custody a short time later. At the station, he was questioned by Atlantic City Police Department and the Atlantic City Prosecutors Office Fatal Crash Unit before being released.

Police do believe this man could very well be the driver that killed the man, however, they want to complete their investigation before making any arrests, according to authorities.

No word on charges or what caused the accident.
