Person Killed in Cheltenham Apartment Blaze

A person has died after becoming trapped in a burning apartment in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania Monday morning.

The fire started around 4:30 a.m. inside a unit at the Lynnewood Garden Apartments at John Russell Circle and Williams Way in Cheltenham Township, fire officials tell NBC10.

When firefighter arrived, they were met with heavy smoke that reduced visibility inside the apartment to nothing.

Two residents were able to escape the apartment, but another person was trapped inside. They were eventually pulled out of the home, but was later pronouced dead.

Firefighters were able to knock down the flames by 5:30 a.m.

The blaze destroyed the apartment and caused the interior second floor of the two story building to collapse, officials said. Fire crews are still on the scene investigating.
