Teen Struck by Pickup Truck That Drives Away

A speeding pickup truck, weaving past slower-moving vehicles was captured on surveillance video in the moments before police say it struck a Delaware County teenager.

Investigators didn't immediately know if the 18-year-old victim was riding or walking his bicycle along the side of W Chester Pike (U.S. Route 13) near W Sellers Avenue in Ridley Park, Pa. around 11 p.m. when he was struck by the pickup, which fled the scene.

The victim, identified as Christopher Brooks of Woodlyn, Pa., was rushed to Crozer-Chester Medical Center in critical condition with head trauma and a broken leg, according to investigators.

Police said the 18-year-old underwent surgery Tuesday morning and appeared to be slightly improving though he remained in critical condition.

Private surveillance video released early Tuesday shows a pickup truck speeding past slower-moving vehicles along West Chester Pike.

The hit-and-run vehicle is described as a dark pickup truck with front end damage. Police hoped a piece of the vehicle left at the scene would help them determine the exact make and model of the vehicle.
