Permit Approved for Controversial NJ Billboard

The LED billboard was installed in March

The State Department of Environmental Protection has approved a permit for a controversial 60-foot billboard that sits along Bay Drive in Egg Harbor Township, N.J.

When the billboard was first put up in March, nearby residents were furious when they found out it would light up and said it doesn't belong in their neighborhood.

"It appears to be something you'd see on the Atlantic City expressway not a private Margate causeway,” Pat McCarthy told NBC10 when the billboard was first installed.

A lawsuit was filed after it was discovered that Jersey Outdoor Media built it without a permit in a coastal wetland area.

The DEP says the company was ordered to move the billboard pole 25 feet away, out of the coastal wetlands, and were able to get permit approval.
