Driver Strikes 2 Teens Riding Bikes Along Montgomery County Trail

Two teenage boys wound up hospitalized after being struck by a sport utility vehicle while riding their bikes along a popular Montgomery County trail Sunday evening.

The 62-year-old driver had just turned onto Plank Road from Gravel Pike when he struck the 14-year-old boys as they crossed Plank Road in the crosswalk for the Perkiomen Trail around 6:20 p.m., said Pennsylvania state Police.

Medics airlifted one boy to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and medivaced the other boy to Lehigh Valley Medical Center for treatment, said police.

Investigators didn't reveal the extent of either boy's injuries.

The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene. As SkyForce10 hovered overhead shortly after the crash, you could see the driver's SUV -- with damage to its windshield -- being towed away from the scene.

The investigation continued into Monday morning.
