Pepsi Closing Reading Distribution Center

Pepsi has announced plans to close a distribution center in a Pennsylvania city, a move that will impact 95 employees.

The company recently informed Reading officials and the state Department of Labor and Industry that the plant will be shuttered on Nov. 6. It's unclear why Pepsi is closing the plant, which has operated since 1940.

Employees will have to reapply for jobs if they would like to work at other locations.

City councilman Chris Daubert said Tuesday the closure is a "big loss." Mayor Wally Scott says the city doesn't want to lose the jobs and reached out to the company as soon as he was notified.

The company closed a warehouse in Schuylkill Haven about three years ago. It currently has operations in Allentown and Harrisburg.
