Teenage Drowning Victim Buried

The teenager who drowned in the rushing waters of an area creek was laid to rest yesterday.

Brandon Boyle, 13, went under the water while swimming with friends in the Pennypack Creek in Northeast Philadelphia last week.

Brandon Boyle's body was recovered three weeks after he went missing. Authorities say Boyle had been swimming with his 11-year-old brother and their friends when was swept away by the rain-swollen waters. His brother was found clinging to a ledge and was rescued.

Nearly 200 people gathered Wednesday to remember Boyle, who was buried at the St. Dominic Church Cemetery. Family and friends said he was loving and had a good sense of humor.

Emergency workers, along with friends and family, had searched for the boy for days before his body was discovered.

A passerby saw the body of Brandon Boyle near Holme and Winchester Avenues July 4th morning, according to the Philadelphia Fire Department. It appeared the body had floated up after being stuck in the rocks.

Boyle just graduated 8th grade and would have celebrated his 14th birthday on July 22.
