A Pennsylvania woman who lost a keepsake necklace in Iceland is getting it back, thanks to the efforts of an alert souvenir shop clerk and a 911 dispatcher.
Ashley Fusco, of Pine Township, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette she lost the necklace while visiting Reykjavik in March. The necklace featured the engraved fingerprints of her parents who were killed in a 2008 car crash.
"I've never taken it off in that nine years," Fusco told the newspaper. "Never."
When she realized the necklace was missing, Fusco said, she left her contact information with all the places she visited in Iceland.
Hera Bjork Thormodsdottir said she found the necklace this week on the floor of the souvenir shop idontspeakicelandic.
"I hesitated at first because I am not a very public person," she said. "But I couldn't just let it sit there and do nothing about it."
She posted pictures of the necklace on Facebook, which eventually caught the attention of Kimberly Robinson, a 911 dispatcher in Tioga County, Pennsylvania. [[423200354, C]]

Robinson said she searched obituaries and found a match for a couple who died on the same date. As a dispatcher, Robinson said, she felt a connection to Fusco's father, who had been an emergency dispatcher for nearly 25 years.
Robinson posted a link to Thormodsdottir's photos on the online obituary for Fusco's parents Monday night. A few hours later, Fusco received a Facebook notification.
Fusco said she was "shocked" since two months had passed since the necklace was lost.
Thormodsdottir said the souvenir shop is mailing the necklace back. [[211053881, C]]
