Dump Truck Overturns During Crash on Pennsylvania Turnpike

An accident involving a dump truck severely impacted traffic on the Pennsylvania Turnpike westbound in Montgomery County throughout Tuesday morning.

The crash, which left the driver injured, happened on the off-ramp from the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-276) westbound to the Northeast Extension (I-476) northbound in Plymouth Township around 6:30 a.m.

The crash involved a dump truck and a pick-up truck. The dump truck, which was hauling stone, overturned on the roadway, spilling its load of stone and fuel from its engine onto the roadway.

The driver of the dump truck was trapped and emergency crews worked feverishly to free him before a medivac chopper took him from the scene. It was not immediately known if there were any other injuries.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.

Crews cleared the scene shortly after 11 a.m.. The road was fully reopened around 12:30 p.m.
