2 Pennsylvania State Troopers Injured in Multi-County Chase

Two Pennsylvania State Troopers suffered minor injuries during a wild chase that spanned through two counties Monday morning.

The incident began around 10 p.m. when the suspect, identified by police as 35-year-old Daniel Arroyo-Vazquez, carjacked a male at gunpoint in the area of N. 5th Street and Walnut Street in Reading.

Investigators say the suspect made the victim drive around for at least 45 minutes before the victim was able to get out of his car and run away. The suspect fled in the victim’s car.

Around 1:20 a.m., Reading Police officers received word that the victim’s car was in the drive-thru of a McDonald’s on Lancaster Avenue.

The suspect was able to elude police and drove away with police in pursuit.

During the pursuit, the car reached speeds of 70 miles per hour and the driver attempted to strike two separate police cars.

The chase eventually crossed into Montgomery County.

Police laid down several spike strips, which the suspect ran over while traveling in the eastbound lanes of Route 422 in Upper Providence Township.

Additional Troopers positioned their vehicles in front of the suspect’s vehicle in an attempt to induce a stop. However, the suspect rammed the Troopers' vehicle, investigators say.

Two Troopers sustained minor injuries and were transported to Phoenixville Hospital for treatment.

The suspect, identified by police as 35-year-old Daniel Arroyo-Vazquez, of Reading, was taken into custody. Police say a firearm was seized.

He is facing charges of Robbery, Robbery of a Motor Vehicle, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, 5 counts of Aggravated Assault, Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless Driving , Unlawful Restraint and Criminal Mischief.
