Pennsylvania Man Disputes Claims He Gave Woman Heart Attack in Home Invasion Robbery

An eastern Pennsylvania man is on trial on charges he caused the death of an elderly Pennsylvania woman who had a heart attack during a home invasion robbery and died two months later.

Twenty-nine-year-old Quadir Taylor, of Easton, acknowledges he helped others rob 76-year-old Carrie Smith in her Northampton County home in January 2012. But he disputes prosecutor's claims that the heart attack she suffered that night caused her eventual death.

Taylor's defense attorney plans to call a medical expert to testify the woman's heart recovered after the incident and that she died of lung disease.

But prosecutors say Taylor acknowledged the woman's ill health in statements to police saying, among other things, "She was old. She was going to die anyway."

The trial began Tuesday and continues Wednesday.
