Pennsylvania Inmate Escapes Jail While Playing Basketball

Authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped from a central Pennsylvania jail while playing basketball, prompting a search and warnings from county school districts.

State police said 32-year-old Jeremiah Moser of Everett, who had been held since August on burglary and trespassing charges, fled from the Bedford County Jail on Tuesday morning.

Chairman Kirt Morris of the county commission told The (Altoona) Mirror that Moser was playing basketball with a fellow inmate in an outdoor recreation area.

Morris said the other inmate walked inside the jail, but when employees went looking for Moser, he had disappeared.

Morris said Moser likely climbed the basketball hoop, got atop the backboard and then the jail roof, and then jumped to a lower building before escaping toward a nearby creek.
