School Van Driver, 74, Sexually Assaults Students With Special Needs on Multi-County Drives: DA

A Bucks County school district suspended a 74-year-old school minivan bus driver after allegations that the driver sexually assaulted two students with special needs over a six-year-period.

Some of the allegations against James McIntyre include touching a 14-year-old and a 22-year-old over their clothing, exposing himself to the females and having them touch him inappropriately during rides from their homes in the Pennridge School District in Bucks County to the Vanguard School in Chester County from 2009 to 2016, said Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele.

The Montgomery County DA’s office picked up the joint investigation since many of the alleged acts occurred while the school van was stopped at traffic lights in Montco while on trips to and from school, said Steele.

A judge arraigned McIntyre Thursday on more than 100 counts including institutional sexual assault, indecent assault, indecent exposure, child endangerment, corruption of minors and related charges. McIntyre was sent to county jail, unable to post $75,000.

Pennridge superintendent Dr. Jacqueline A. Rattigan responded to the allegations by suspending the long-time driver.

“Mr. McIntyre has been employed with the District’s Transportation Department since 2002,” said Rattigan. “He has been suspended without pay and is banned from school district property, pending the outcome of the investigation.

“We will be in contact with the families of students involved and will provide all necessary resources. The District will cooperate fully with law enforcement as the investigation continues.”
