Death Investigation Closes Delco Middle School: Source

A death investigation caused the closure of a Delaware County middle school Tuesday, a source with knowledge of the investigation told NBC10.

"There will be no school for Penn Wood Middle School students on Tuesday, Oct. 24 due to police activity in the surrounding area," the William Penn School District posted on its website.

Darby police alerted the school district of a crime investigation near the school located on Summit Street in Darby, Pennsylvania, the district said.

The investigation took longer than expected causing the district to cancel classes after initially only delaying school at the request of police, the district said.

Darby police didn't officially reveal the focus of the investigation that caused the closure but a source said that a man was found shot in the backseat of a car near the school.
