Penn President Amy Gutmann Sees Contract Extended to 2022

University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann will see her contract extended until June of 2022, Board of Trustees Chairman David L. Cohen announced Tuesday.

In a statement, Cohen said the board agreed to add three more years onto Gutmann's contract, which was due to end in 2019, citing a slew of accomplishments and changes Gutmann has spearheaded since taking helm of the institution in 2004.

“Amy Gutmann’s outstanding leadership of Penn has been nothing short of transformational,” said Cohen. “The Trustees strongly support her inspiring vision for Penn and our broader community."

Cohen said that the Penn Compact 2020 plan announced in Gutmann's inaugural address has resulted in record numbers of undergraduate applications, a more than $6 billion increase in the school's endowment, the creation of new facilities including 24-acre Penn Park, the creation of 200 new endowed professorships and a 155 percent growth in the undergraduate financial aid budget.
