A pedestrian was struck and killed by a pickup truck Wednesday morning, closing I-95 for almost three hours.

The 44-year-old New Jersey man who was killed had run out of gas for his tractor-trailer. He crossed I-95 to get fuel from another trucker at the Pennsylvania Welcome Center in Lower Chichester, Pa. Gas in hand, the man started to walk back across the highway and was hit by a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck at about 5:45 a.m.

The man was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck, a 35-year-old Bear, Del., man, was not injured, but his truck was consumed by flames.

I-95 was closed until 8:30 a.m. Authorities are investigating the accident.
