Del. Woman Killed by Snowplow

A pedestrian was struck and likely killed by a DelDOT snowplow Thursday morning in Wilmington, according to DelDOT officials.

Denise McFadden of Wilmington was walking along the eastbound Washington Street Extension around 6:30 when a six-wheel 1998 Ford dump truck with a plow attached hit her, Delaware State Police said.

The driver of the truck, Shawn Griner of Wilmington, was plowing Philadelphia Pike when he made a U-turn on the extension to resume plowing the other side of Philadelphia Pike.

In the process of making the turn, the 37-year-old DelDOT driver, hit and injured the 51-year-old pedestrian, cops said.

McFadden was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The medical examiner's officer was still determining an exact cause of death.

The accident shut down Washington Street at Route 13 for a period of time.

Griner wasn't hurt.

State Police were investigating the crash.

A Trenton man also was hit by a snowplow and killed Thursday. Around 12:30 a.m. The man, identified as 47-year-old Quirino Azcona, had fallen into a snow bank and was then hit by a city sanitation truck, police said.

The driver of the truck apparently didn't see the victim. It wasn't exactly clear what killed Azcona.
