Passenger on Board Philadelphia to Frankfurt Plane Dies

A plane traveling from Philadelphia to Frankfurt, Germany, made an unscheduled landing in Newfoundland due to a passenger's medical emergency. The passenger later died.

American Airlines Flight 700 landed in Gander around 3:45 a.m. local time and officials with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police came aboard to assist the passenger, who passed away, according to an American Airlines spokesperson.

The spokesperson said the flight was canceled and passengers were able to stay in a nearby hotel overnight until a new plane arrived to take them on to Frankfurt.

There was no information on the identity of the passenger who died or exactly what caused the medical emergency.
