Paraplegic Marine Escapes Apartment Fire

A paraplegic man who served in the U.S. Marines is recovering but still alive after he managed to escape his apartment during a fire in Delaware County.

The fire broke out inside a unit at the Buckman Meadow Apartment Complex on the 1000 block of Meadow Lane in Chester around 7:10 p.m.

Investigators say the blaze began inside the kitchen of a U.S. Marine  confined to a motorized wheelchair. The unidentified man climbed out of the second floor window and then dropped to the ground.

The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the fall. He was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center for evaluation. No one else was hurt in the fire.

The fire was placed under control at 7:26 p.m. The Marine’s unit was the only apartment affected.

Officials continue to investigate the cause.
