Paddle Wheel Boat Crew to the Rescue After Sailboat Overturns in New Jersey

Authorities said a man whose small sailboat overturned in a South Jersey river was rescued by the crew of a passing paddle wheel boat.

The man was not injured in the incident, which occurred around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities told the Asbury Park Press that a person who was near the Toms River saw the man floating in the water and waving for assistance. The witness alerted an Ocean Gate police officer, but the crew of the River Lady paddle wheel boat was able to get the man out of the water before emergency crews arrived.

The man's name was not released.

Authorities are trying to determine what caused the sailboat to overturn. It had to be towed because its mast became stuck in the river mud.
