Pa. State Police Set Record For DUI Arrests

Pennsylvania state troopers made 17,695 arrests last year for driving under the influence, the ninth straight year the department has set a record.

The figures released Thursday represent a 5 percent increase over 2009.

One factor is a wider deployment of drug recognition techniques. The 1,450 drug influence evaluations they conducted last year represented a 29 percent increase over the prior year.

The number of alcohol-related crashes that troopers investigate fell slightly last year, to 4,595.

The totals do not include DUI arrests by local police.
