Pa. Couple Wanted for Killing Man, Stuffing Body Parts Into Backpack: Cops

Authorities are looking for a Pennsylvania couple who they say murdered a Los Angeles good samaritan who befriended them on Nov. 28.

A maid found the body of Herbert DeMarco White, 49, on Nov. 29 cut into five pieces and stuffed into a backpack under a bed in a room at the Continental Hotel, Detective Richard Arciniega said. His torso was found wrapped in a blanket.

York, Pa. natives Edward Garcia Jr., 36, and Melissa Hope Garcia, 25, who also goes by the name Melissa Turner, were charged Tuesday with the murder and torturing of White.

Investigators say the victim met the couple, who he described as a "lovely young couple" at an ATM a few days before his murder.

According to his mother, White received a phone call around 2 a.m. on Nov. 28 and told his wife that he had to go and give someone a ride.

"He said, 'I'll see you tomorrow.' That's the last I saw of him," Annie Coty-White said.

Her husband borrowed her car, which was found outside the hotel where he was killed.

The Garcias have several previous arrests for robbery in the state of Pennsylvania and they are considered armed and dangerous, said Detective Arciniega.

"He befriended them, helped them out, gave them money, maybe a place to stay and they ended up killing him," Arciniega said.

White's family is asking for the public's help in finding the Garcias.

"Get these monsters off the streets," pleads the victim's brother Anthony DeMarco White.
