Pa. Counties Announce Plan to Join Animal Agencies

Two animal welfare agencies in Pennsylvania are proposing a merger.

The Humane Society of Berks County said Thursday it plans to merge with the Humane League of Lancaster County.

The regional organization would be called Humane Pennsylvania and led by the head of the Berks County group. The head of the Lancaster organization is retiring next year.

Officials from both organizations said joining forces would allow them to provide more low- or no-cost services such as vaccinations and veterinary care.

The merger must be approved by the state.
