Police in State College say a Penn State student is facing charges after allegedly breaking into a home while looking for a place to sleep.

Investigators say the homeowner fired shots in the air as a warning, but no one was hurt.

The Centre Daily Times reports police say 19-year-old James Sharer faces charges of felony criminal trespass and other counts after Sunday's incident. Police say his breath smelled of alcohol.

Investigators say that after he was found in the house around 3 a.m., the owner repeatedly told him to leave and fired two shots in the air. Sharer ran away and police found him nearby.

Court records show he's being held at the Centre County Correctional facility. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
