PSPCA Saving Pup's Life After Fighting Ring Raid

Seven dogs and a cat removed from home after fighting evidence found

Noah the pit bull has puncture holes on his face, bites to his ears and scratches around his eyes. Wounds that are now infected after being left untreated.

Pennsylvania SPCA officials say the dog received the injuries after being forced to fight in a brutal dog fighting ring.

Noah, six other dogs and a cat were removed from a home along the 2200 block of Delhi Street in North Philadelphia Tuesday after an early morning raid.

One of the dogs removed was already dead and the young pit bull officials named Noah was in bad shape.

In the basement, investigators found wooden crates, leather straps, a training area and dried, residual blood.

"Anybody who can sit back and watch two animals tear each other apart, I mean, it's something that most of us can't even comprehend," a disgusted Nicole Wilson of the PSPCA said.

Animal control investigators had their eye on the home for several months, but moved in Tuesday after obtaining a search warrant for fear the dogs may be moved.

"We believe this ring to be part of a larger network of dog fighters in the Philadelphia area," Wilson said.

The PSPCA and Philadelphia Police Department are working to track down other homes and owners believed to be involved in dog fighting.

As for Noah, he was immediately rushed into emergency surgery to treat the wounds. With a little luck he will recover and be able to be put up for adoption along with the other animals.

The owner of the home, 36-year-old Shelly Lowry, has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty.
