Popular Elvis Impersonator Passes Away

Ted Prior, who shook his hips all over South Jersey singing Elvis Presley songs, died at the age of 68.  Prior had been diagnosed with cancer last year.

Prior, of Galloway, N.J., liked to refer to himself as an Elvis "performer," rather than an "impersonator."  He worked as an entertainer for over three decades.

"It is with deep sorrow I report that my friend and local legendary entertainer Ted Prior took his final curtain call today," Prior's friend and manager Neil Regina wrote on his Facebook page.  "The stars in Heaven will be much brighter and the music in rock and roll heaven will be much sweeter with him on lead vocal."

When he was a freshman at Atlantic City High School, in 1957, Prior performed his first Elvis song publicly, the Press of Atlantic City reported.

Prior told the paper he was well ahead of the curve from the rest of the Elvis impersonators.  "I didn't just do it after Elvis died," he said, "I was doing it well before he died."
