Police Cruiser Sandwiched by Speeding Cars

Among a police officer's duties, filling out paperwork is supposed to be one of the least hazardous jobs.

But an officer from the 6th Precinct almost suffered serious injury early this morning while filling out forms in his car.

Around 5:42 a.m., the officer's cruiser was in a parking lot at Ridge Ave. and Wood Street in northern Philadelphia.  A speeding Acura carrying two men careened into the parking lot, and hit the officer's vehicle from behind.

Moments later, a second vehicle, which cops believe were chasing the first, also came barreling into the parking lot.  that car, a grey Malibu, crashed into the front of the police cruiser.

The Malibu pulled out and fled, but the Acura and its occupants remained on the scene and were questioned by authorities.

The officer in the vehicle was taken to the hospital to treat lacerations on his face.

No charges have been issued yet.
