Overnight Homicides in Philadelphia

Police have reported a pair of homicides early Saturday morning in Philadelphia.

The first incident happened at 1 a.m. in Southwest Philly.  Police said a male victim died after being shot in the chest, near South 67th Street and Buist Avenue. The shooting was only a few blocks away from a playground.

Authorities identified the victim as 24-year-old Dion Bennett, of Philadelphia.

A second fatal shooting occurred in West Kensington at 2 a.m.  There, authorities said a 35-year-old male was the victim.  Investigators did not immediately release a motive or a suspect in the incident.

In the city of Philadelphia, police have recorded 159 homicides this year.
