Mischief Spree Strikes Toms River Windows

The soft whoosh of compressed air thumped again and again across Toms River Friday night, in a crime spree that affected both cars and homes.

Police said someone wielding a bb-gun left a trail of shattered windows and broken glass in 20 separate incidents.

The shooting started around 8 p.m., and continued until 10 p.m.  The first reports came from a residence on Chipmunk Lane.  After that, police discovered car windows shot out on Choir Court, Ferro, Woodchuck, and Raccoon Streets in the Pleasant Plains section of town.

After a lull, 9 more vehicle windows got hit in the Holiday City at Silverton retirement community.

Authorities continue to investigate.
