Craigslist Thieves Stealing Luxe Watches: Police

On August 15, a man trying to sell his Rolex watch on Craigslist arranges to meet what he thought was a potential buyer on North Gratz Street in Philadelphia.

At the rendezvous, while one man looked over the seller's watch, another walked up to the driver side window of the watch owner’s car and pointed a large-caliber gun inside.  The men then relieved the buyer of his luxury watch, and his cell phone, together valued at $7,200, police said.

Similar incidents played out two other times, on August 11 and August 17.  In both cases, watch owners had posted Craigslist ads trying to sell their high-value time pieces.  One incident resulted in gunfire.  On August 17, the seller initially refused to give up his Movado watch.  After the man was shot in the leg, the watch was taken.

Philadelphia police issued an arrest warrant for Aleem Reed, who they said is the man holding the gun in these robberies.  Investigators believe two other men are involved.  Anyone with information on the crimes has been asked to call 215-686-TIPS (8477).
