Columbus Day Closures in Philadelphia Region

It wasn’t a normal start to the work week Monday as Columbus Day caused closures around the Philadelphia region.

In Philadelphia, free library locations, public schools and municipal courts closed in observance of the holiday honoring Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas. Curbside trash and recycling collection was pushed back one day throughout the week in the city. Check with your local municipality to see if trash will be picked up in your neighborhood.

Federal courts and agencies as well as local and state courts and agencies closed for Columbus Day. The U.S. Postal Service also closed for the day.

Many banks and some museums closed for the holiday. The best bet is to call ahead to see if a location is open. And, plenty of businesses looked for some extra cash as they offered Columbus Day sales.

SEPTA and PATCO trains operated on normal weekday schedules.

If you aren’t sure if something is open on Monday, be sure to call ahead and/or check the website.
