Planned Power Outages to Begin for PECO Customers in Abington, Cheltenham, Jenkintown

Planned power outages will occur in Abington, Cheltenham and Jenkintown this week as PECO enters the final stage of a construction project.

PECO officials say they invested more than $11 million in a project to enhance the local electric distribution system for more than 4,100 customers in southeastern Montgomery County.

“This work will help us continue to ensure safe, reliable and efficient delivery of electricity to our customers in  Abington, Cheltenham and Jenkintown,”

Montgomery County’s PECO External Affairs Manager Suzanne Ryan wrote in a letter to customers.

Officials say the construction began in October, 2014 and is now close to completion.

“During the next several weeks, we will begin to connect the new equipment to our electric system,” Ryan wrote. “To safely complete this work, crews may need to temporarily interrupt your electric service for about four to six hours. “

A PECO spokesmen told NBC10 the planned outages should begin this week after Memorial Day and continue until June 10. Officials say they’ve notified all customers who will be affected.
