Weavers Way Co-Op Opening First Suburban Location in Montgomery County

The Philadelphia-based Weavers Way Co-op will open its third store on the site of a former supermarket chain in a grocery-deprived Montgomery County area.

Ambler, Pennsylvania, has been without a grocery store since the Bottom Dollar closed in 2014 as part of a sale to Aldi by Bottom Dollar's parent company. The town had previously lost an Acme store, which left in 2009.

Now Mount Airy's Weavers Way Co-op will fill that gap. The co-op will open its third location in April at 217 E. Butler Ave. It will be the co-op's first grocery store outside of Northeast Philadelphia; a Chestnut Hill location opened in 2010.

To support the Ambler operation, the co-op expects to add 45 employees to its current full- and part-time staff of about 175.

The co-op will replace the former Bottom Dollar, which had been a boon for Ambler. This location, however, was one of 66 locations sold in November 2014 by parent company Delhaize Group to grocery chain Aldi.

About 10,000 square feet of space at the new store will be retail space, which is bigger than the Mount Airy and Chestnut Hill stores combined. It will include a loading dock, back-stock areas and an 85-space parking lot.
