I Would Veto Any Bill That Blocks Phila. Paid Sick Leave Law: Wolf

Gov. Tom Wolf said Thursday he would veto a bill that passed the Republican-controlled state Senate to override local sick-leave laws in Pennsylvania like the one just ratified in Philadelphia if it ever reaches his desk, WITF-TV in Harrisburg reported.

The measure, which passed in the state Senate with bipartisan support last week, aims to pre-empt Philadelphia’s new law requiring businesses with 10 or more employees to give workers an hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked. The law, signed by Mayor Michael Nutter in February, is set to take effect next month.

Wolf said local municipalities should be allowed to control such decisions.
