Philly Part of Crowded Field Trying to Lure Sriracha Factory

Pennsylvania is one of at least 11 states trying to entice the maker of sriracha to move from California.

The creator of the popular hot sauce, David Tran of Huy Fong Foods, told the Los Angeles Times he is considering moving the factory from Irwindale, Calif., where residents have complained about the odor and called it a public nuisance.

Earlier this year, Philadelphia City Councilman Jim Kenney wrote a letter to Tran to convince him that the factory would get more love in the City of Brotherly Love.

Alabama,  Louisiana, Kansas, Ohio, Georgia, Iowa, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and West Virginia have also offered to host the sriracha factory, the Times reported.

Elected officials in California are also hoping to find an alternate in-state location for the sriracha maker, which has 200 employees. Read more about this story on PBJ.com.
