Phillies' Farm Teams Reaping Big Attendance Numbers

The Philadelphia Phillies may rank in the bottom third in Major League Baseball attendance this season, but the same thing can’t be said for their minor league affiliates.

The Reading Fightin Phils, Lakewood BlueClaws and Clearwater Threshers all led their respective leagues in attendance.

The BlueClaws led the South Atlantic League in attendance for the 16th consecutive season. The single-A team drew 353,080 fans to FirstEnergy Park for an average of 5,350 for its 66 home dates. The BlueClaws have lead their league in attendance every season since they began play in 2001, and have now drawn more than 6.77 millions fans to their New Jersey ballpark.

The team’s July 3 crowd of 10,011 fans, for what the BlueClaws promoted as its “biggest fireworks show ever," marked the first time this team surpassed 10,000 people since Aug. 20, 2010 – when Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard was in Lakewood on a rehab assignment and the team retired his BlueClaws uniform number 29 in a pre-game ceremony.
