This September during the World Meeting of Families, 1.5 million people will come to the Ben Franklin Parkway on Sept. 26 for Festival of Families, and on Sept. 27 for a mass led by Pope Francis, but a number of the area's arts-and-cultural institutions will be closed.
The Franklin Institute recently decided it would be closed for the papal weekend, Sept. 26-27, CEO Larry Dubinski said. The institute will be open the entire week prior to the weekend, during the weeklong World Meeting of Families, offering visitors its Vatican Splendors exhibit.
Friday's schedule has not been completely determined yet.
The Academy of Natural Sciences also decided it will be closed during the papal weekend starting Friday, Sept. 25.
