Montco-Based Bank to Shutter Six Local Branches

Univest Corp. of Pennsylvania plans to close six of its 34 financial centers and develop a new, smaller model that it says combines enhanced technology and more emphasis on consultative services provided by customer service employees.

The Souderton-based company, which operates main subsidiary Univest Bank, made the announcement during its first-quarter earnings report, the first since it closed its acquisition of Mount Airy-based Valley Green Bank.

The new model was first introduced in Newtown earlier this year with two more planned in Collegeville and the Fairmount section of Philadelphia during the third quarter.
