PATCO is celebrating 50 years of transporting passengers between Center City Philadelphia and South Jersey by offering nostalgic fares.
Friday marks 50 years since PATCO made the inaugural journey from Lindenwold, New Jersey, to Center City on Feb. 15, 1969, the agency says.
To mark the occasion, PATCO showed its appreciation by offering “Flashback Fares” at all stations from 6 to 11 a.m. Rides cost as little as 30 cents as the transit agency celebrates 1969.
Here are the Flashback Fares for trips to and from Center City:
- For Lindenwold, Ashland and Woodcrest stations - 60 cents (presently $3)
- For Haddonfield, Westmont and Collingswood stations - 50 cents (normally $2.60)
- For Ferry Avenue Station - 40 cents (presently $2.25)
- For Broadway and City Hall stations - 30 cents (normally $1.40)
It will also be cheap to not cross the Ben Franklin Bridge Friday morning:
- Trips between Philly’s four stations - 30 cents (presently $1.40)
- Trips between New Jersey’s nine stations - 40 cents (normally $1.60)
Besides the cheap rides there will be some retro swag. PATCO staff handed out commemorative reproductions of the original 1969 timetable at stations between Lindenwold and Broadway from 7 to 9 a.m. Friday.
PATCO, state and local officials also held a news conference at 9 a.m. at the Woodcrest Station.
