Philadelphia Police are looking for a man they say carjacked, then raped a 17-year-old girl. NBC10’s Denise Nakano has the latest on the investigation.
The search is on for a man who Philadelphia Police say sexually assaulted a girl after forcing her at gunpoint to drive to a vacant lot last week.
Special Victims Unit investigators released a composite sketch Monday of the armed man who they say jumped into a woman’s car while she was stopped at a light in the city’s Logan section Tuesday night.
Police say the medium-built man -- who is in his 20s standing about 6-foot-inches tall with a star tattoo on his neck and sideburns -- jumped into the 17-year-old victim’s car on Lindley and Windrim Avenues around 10 p.m. He then forced her to drive to a grassy lot about a mile and a half away on the 5900 block of North 21st Street in Olney.
Police say the man then pulled the girl from her car and raped her before running off northbound on 21st Street.
The victim was able to give a detailed description of the suspect that was used for the corresponding sketch. Police say the man was wearing a NIKE sweatshirt, blue jeans and leather gloves at the time of the attack.
Block captain Robin Woods considers the assault a setback for the neighborhood she's tried to keep safe for the past decade.
"It could happen to anybody," she said. "It could happen to me. I leave for work early in the morning."
