Murder Charges for Old City Beating Suspects

Left to Right: Felix Carrillo, Kenneth Santiago, Steven Ferguson

About one week to the hour that three men beat a Temple grad to death in Old City, Philadelphia Police announced early Saturday that they had arrested and charged three men with the murder.

Felix Carrillo, 23, of the 4800 Block of N. Fairhill Street; Stephen Ferguson, 20, of the 1100 Block of Sally Street and Kenneth Santiago, 19, of the 3800 Block of Dungan Street are charged with beating Kevin Kless to death on the 400 block of Chestnut street around 2:30 a.m. last Saturday.

Cops also had the alleged getaway car -- a dark-colored Toyota Camry with Pennsylvania tags -- that the suspects made off in on the night of the murder, according to sources.

A tip led police to the suspects and there are only believed to have been three men involved, not four as originally reported, cops said.

The city of Philadelphia, local Fraternal Order of Police and the Citizens Crime Commission had offered a $20,000 reward for anyone with information that led to the arrest of the men who beat Kless to death after he and two friends had left an Old City bar and were ttrying to hail a cab home.

Kless was beaten shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the city's historic district, not far from Independence Hall. Investigators say Kless was having a conversation with a cab driver after yelling at him to turn off his light.

At that time the men in another car began arguing with Kless and then three men got out of the vehicle and the beating ensued, cops said.

Police say the men punched and kicked Kless, who fell to sidewalk severely injured. He was pronounced dead several hours later.

His alleged attackers jumped back into their car and drove off down Chestnut Street.

Kless was laid to rest Saturday morning.  His funeral services were held in Warwick, NY.
