A northwestern Pennsylvania man called 911 to report fatally shooting his wife, and cooperated as officers arrived moments later, police said.
Jeffrey Goodman Sr. called Oil City police about 11:15 p.m. Saturday to report the shooting, said police.
Police Chief Robert Wenner said Goodman, 49, cooperated with officers and "discussed a three-year, up-and-down domestic situation" that allegedly fueled the incident.
Police said 49-year-old Cathy Goodman was shot once in the head with a high-powered hunting rifle.
Goodman remained in the Venango County Jail unable to post bond Monday on a charge of criminal homicide.
Online court records do not list an attorney for him.
